Assembly
Dear
Parents,
On
Friday 17th of August (Week 5
Term 3) the students from Room 13
and Room 28 will be hosting and
performing at the Senior Assembly.
In
preparation for this, many of the students have been allocated a role and as
such they will need to learn their
speaking parts. These speaking parts will be sent home in the coming days
on laminated cards. Please support your child in learning their speaking parts
to ensure volume, confidence and fluency on the day. There are also a few songs
we will be learning at school. These are “Rip
Rip Woodchip – John Williamson” and “Heal
The World – Michael Jackson.” The links and lyrics for these can be found
on our classroom blogs.
The
theme for our performance is “Heal the
World” with a focus on environmental concerns such as excessive landfill,
pollution and deforestation. We will be exploring these issues and what can be
done to “make a difference.” As part
of this, the students will be challenged to plan, design and make their own
costumes at home, with a focus on using
recycled materials. The plan and design phase has been completed on the
back of this page, and there is a range of ideas and photographs which can be
used for inspiration on our classroom blogs.
Please
be mindful that the children will be dancing and acting, so the costumes will
need to be comfortable and appropriate for movement. These costumes will need
to be completed and brought to school for rehearsal by Monday 13th of August (Week 5 Term 3.) This allows the
students 3 weeks to prepare these. All costumes will be sent home again on Thursday 16th August so that
the children are able to get dressed in their costumes at home on the morning
of the assembly.
If
you are having any difficulty with organising your child’s costume, please
contact your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible, so that
arrangements can be made. Please note that those students allocated a lead role
will be spoken to individually regarding costuming.
We
thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you all there in the
audience.
Kind
Regards
Gemma

Diorama Project
Last week we videoed our virtual tours of our dioramas. It was so wonderful to see all of the hard work everyone put into this project! This was a great opportunity for students to express their knowledge of living and non-living things. We are very lucky to have such wonderful support from our families in Room 28! We invite all parents and families to come and have a look at our diorama display.
Senior Assembly Term 2
Congratulations to our Merit Certificate recipients from our last Senior Assembly. You are all very deserving of your acknowledgements. Isabelle, Ron Ron and Natalia received our class awards, Scarlet received an Italian award from Seniora Isaia, and we won the class award for Sport from Miss Oliver. We also had a number of students awarded for their achievements with Literacy Pro. It is wonderful to see so many students passionate about reading in Room 28. Keep up the great work!

WE LOVE WA
National Simultaneous Storytime
This year, our school took part in a National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday the 23rd of May.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
This event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, the value and fun of books, and an Australian children's writer and publisher. This year's book was Hickory Dickory Dash written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
Diorama Project
Term 2 Diorama Project
What are we learning about in Science?
The students in Year 3 are learning about the difference between living, non-living and once living things. They will group and compare living and non-living things based on observable features. Together we will investigate the characteristics of living things such as: movement, respiration, reproduction and growth. The children need to communicate their ideas using diagrams and other representations such as dioramas.
What have we been doing at school?
What needs to be done at home?
What happens next?
- Students have learnt about living, non-living, once-living and products of living things. They can be reminded of these by clicking on this link: Living and Non-living Things PowerPoint
- Students then investigated an analysed a range of photographs of underwater scenes. Using these, they listed various living, non-living and once-living things under the sea. They can access our whole class brainstorm by clicking on this link: Underwater Scene Living, Non-Living and Once Living Brainstorm
- Students will design their own underwater scene, adding and changing the features within the photographs to create a scene, which includes a range of living, non-living and once living things.
- Students were shown different examples of dioramas, including the ones found by clicking this link: Examples of Dioramas
- Students have drawn a diagram to further plan their own diorama and have written a list of the materials required for the completion of their own diorama.
What needs to be done at home?
- On Friday the 1st of June, students will be sent home with a box, this project checklist and their planning.
- Students will have a week to complete their diorama, in accordance with their planning.
- On Friday the 8th of June, students will return their complete dioramas to school.
What happens next?
- Students will begin working on the script for their oral presentation. This presentation will involve telling an audience about what they have made how they have made it and which living, non-living and once-living features have been included within the diorama.
- This presentation will be recorded using an iPad to create a virtual tour with audio recording.
- All dioramas will be displayed in the classroom for everybody to enjoy!
Term 2
Super Scientist
This week we are conducting our Super Scientist Presentations. Our aim
is for students to develop a passion for science, while encouraging the
children to learn more about the natural world. All students are to
research a scientific concept or idea, and deliver this to an
audience. They may choose to conduct an experiment or give
a report on their concept. Congratulations to Tuesday’s scientists,
you have all done a fantastic job.
WA Day
Every year our school likes to celebrate WA Day with a whole school activity.
To celebrate our extraordinary state this year, students are asked to bring a
copy of a photograph that shows somewhere they may have visited in Western
Australia. This must be no bigger than A5 in size. Please ensure that it is a copy, as the
photograph will not be returned. Once collected, photos will
be glued onto a giant WA Day sign, which will be on display for the week.
Please have these returned to school by Tuesday the 5th of June. Thank you for your support!
Genius Hour
Last week, students undertook an inquiry project about different celebrations
and commemorations around the world. Students researched their chosen
celebration/commemoration and presented their information to the class. Well
done, Room 28 on your outstanding presentations!
Room 28's Slipper Day
Last week, Room 28 earned the whole class reward of wearing no shoes in the classroom! As it was a cold rainy day, we decided to turn it into a slipper day! We had cosy toes all day :)
NAPLAN
Well done to Room 28 students who completed their first ever NAPLAN tests in Week 3 of this term. I know you all tried your very best and I am so proud of your hard work.

Leila, Anjali, Sarah, Lucy and Natalia are leading the way with all their hard work on Literacy Pro. Between them, they have read over 60,000 words in just 7 weeks! Awesome work girls, keep it up! |
Buddies
Last week, we visited our buddies in Room 4. We iced and decorated biscuits!
It was lovely seeing the Year 3s helping the little Kindies put the icing on their biscuits and read a story with them afterwards.
